Is this the old Apple Tree Inn?

Short answer: Yes! Hotel Pommier Indianola proudly sits on the site of the former Apple Tree Inn, one of Indianola’s first modern hotels. Our transformation carries decades of stories, hospitality, and community pride. Let’s dive into the journey from the Apple Tree Inn to today’s Hotel Pommier.

Brief History of Indianola

Indianola, Iowa, was founded in 1849 and named after another town in Texas, though that original Indianola is now a ghost town! Traditionally, the community thrived on agriculture, especially corn and soybean production.

  • Population in the late 1800s: Just over 2,000
  • Population today: More than 16,000 residents and growing

The Apple Tree Inn: A Local Favorite

For decades, the Apple Tree Inn was a cherished stop for travelers and a cozy retreat for locals. Originally built on a former Apple Orchard, it was conveniently located just off the main road and became known for:

  • Comfortable, country-chic guest rooms
  • A warm and welcoming atmosphere
  • Generations of innkeepers who treated guests like family

The Apple Tree Inn changed ownership only once since its construction—a testament to its strong community roots. Guests remember not just the rooms, but the people who made their stays special.

Yet, as the years passed, the charm began to fade. Though the inn eventually closed, its memory remains alive for many who stayed there.

Renovations and New Beginnings

n 2019, the second-generation owners decided to retire and passed the Apple Tree Inn to their son. With fresh ideas and a vision for the future, he began a complete renovation project.

But then, 2020 brought the unexpected, COVID-19. Shipping delays, supply shortages, and shifting safety regulations slowed everything down. Still, the project pressed forward.

Finally, in 2020, the Apple Tree Inn was reborn as Hotel Pommier. Fittingly, “pommier” means “apple tree” in French, a nod to our history.

Hotel Pommier Today

Hotel Pommier has grown well beyond its original roots. What started as a single renovation project in Indianola has expanded into multiple locations, including our Chariton, Iowa Hotel. Each property carries the same commitment to warm hospitality, modern comfort, and community connection.

The hotel has also been featured in local news outlets, highlighting its role in preserving local history while offering fresh, updated accommodations for today’s travelers. This recognition reflects not only the dedication of the team but also the strong support from the communities they serve.

Looking ahead, Hotel Pommier is focused on continuing to grow while giving back. Expansion plans are guided by the same values that made the Apple Tree Inn a beloved landmark: welcoming every guest like family, supporting local businesses, and strengthening ties within the community.

Hotel Pommier isn’t just a place to stay—it’s a reflection of Iowa pride, hospitality, and resilience.
